Do you have gluten-free dishes?
Yes. Our food menu marks 16 dishes as gluten-free with a symbol, including 15 of the 18 salads. The symbol is the menu’s own mark, not an allergen guarantee, so if you have coeliac disease or an allergy, please ask your waiter before you order.
Which dishes are marked gluten-free?
Mostly salads. Fifteen of our 18 salads carry the gluten-free mark, from tomatoes with garlic at €10.50. In the tapas list only one dish carries it: mussels in a pepper and onion vinaigrette (mejillones a la vinagreta), at €7. The mark is the menu’s own symbol, so ask your waiter before you order.
Do you have vegetarian or vegan tapas?
Vegetarian, yes: our food menu marks 33 entries as vegetarian, including berenjenas con miel (fried aubergine with cane honey), pimientos de Padrón, patatas bravas, Spanish omelette and hummus, all €6.50 as tapas. Vegan: the only dish the menu names as vegan is the vegan burger (hamburguesa vegana), at €17.50, a main rather than a tapa.
Do you serve halal food?
Yes. Our food menu says we offer halal options and marks them with a halal symbol: 9 entries, including the chicken wings (€6.50) and beef stew (€7) tapas. If you need to know how a dish is prepared, ask your waiter before you order.
Three doors
Picas and booking.
Are the three Picas doors the same place?
One name and one menu, yes, but three separate venues on and beside Plaza de la Merced: two next door to each other on the square and the third in the passage beside it, under a minute away. When one is full, we seat you wherever there’s room. More on who we are.
How do I book a table?
By phone: we take reservations at all three doors. Call +34 952 21 79 41 with the day, the time and how many you are. Everything in one place: how to book.
Can you take large groups?
Yes. Large groups are welcome: we have around 300 seats across our three doors, a few steps apart on and beside Plaza de la Merced. We have two group menus for 4 to 40 people, at €45 and €60 per person, with drinks included. See the group menu details.
What it costs
Prices.
How much do tapas cost?
Tapas cost €6.50 or €7 each on our food menu. Can’t choose? Ask for five tapas picked by the chef for €22. Some dishes come as a half portion or a portion: fried fish, for example, is €16.50 or €23.50. You can see prices on the menu before you come.
How many tapas should we order?
There’s no fixed number. Several guests mention generous portions in their reviews, so share a few tapas at €6.50–€7 first, perhaps a half portion of fried fish at €16.50, then order more if you’re still hungry. The Fritura Malagueña is €19.50 a half portion. Next question, perhaps: what is pescaíto frito?
Is eating at Picas expensive?
No: Google lists Picas as “inexpensive”. On our menus, tapas are €6.50–€7, a small draught beer (caña) €3, a glass of sangria €6.50 or a jug €16.50, and a Basic breakfast (coffee and a ciabatta) €8 Check the breakfast prices and food menu before you sit down.
Your visit
Visiting.
Where is Picas, and how do I get there on foot?
On Plaza de la Merced, in Málaga’s old town. It’s about 5 minutes on foot from the Roman Theatre, at the foot of the Alcazaba, about 10 minutes from the Cathedral or Calle Larios, and about 17 minutes from Muelle Uno. From María Zambrano station it’s about 2.5 km, a little over 30 minutes on foot.
Do you have a terrace?
Yes. Our terrace is on Plaza de la Merced, and all three of our doors have tables outside. We can’t promise an outdoor table at busy times, so if the terrace matters to you, say so when you book or come a little before the evening peak.
What are your opening hours?
On Plaza de la Merced we open every day from 09:00 until midnight, and breakfast starts at 09:00. Taberna Picas Málaga, our third door, in the passage beside the square, opens daily at 13:30 and also closes at midnight. For kitchen times, call +34 952 21 79 41. More on tapas in Málaga, breakfast in Málaga and restaurants in Málaga.
What time is dinner busiest at Picas?
Around 20:00–21:00 at the weekend. Our busiest evenings are Friday to Sunday: Saturday peaks around 21:00, Friday and Sunday around 20:00. For a quieter table, come a little earlier, choose a weekday or book ahead.
Can I bring my dog or my children?
Dogs: yes, inside the bar and on its terrace. Mention your dog when you book and we’ll find you a table where it’s welcome. Children: families are welcome at all three of our doors, and there are high chairs at the bar on the square.
Is Picas wheelchair accessible?
Yes. All three of our doors have a wheelchair-accessible entrance, toilet and seating. None of them lists accessible parking, so if you need anything specific, from a table near the door to help with the step-free route in, call us before you come and we’ll plan the visit with you.
Can I watch football at Picas?
Yes. The match is on TV inside the bar, and guests mention watching football here in their reviews. We don’t publish match schedules, so call +34 952 21 79 41 to check a specific game, or see sport on TV in the bar.
Can I pay by card, and do you deliver?
Yes to cards: all three of our doors take credit and debit cards and contactless mobile payments. No to delivery, but you can take food away from our two doors on the square: call +34 952 21 79 41. There’s Wi-Fi at all three, too.
