PLAZA DE LA MERCED · MÁLAGA

About Picas,
one name, three doors.

Picas is one name with three doors in Málaga’s old town: two next door to each other on Plaza de la Merced and one in the passage beside it, under a minute away. All three serve the same menu, and tile murals line the façade and the passage.

Open daily until midnight. From 09:00 on the square and from 13:30 in the passage, with the same menu at all three doors.

WHO WE ARE

Three doors, one menu.

Picas is one place with three doors. Two of them open onto Plaza de la Merced, next door to each other, and the third is in the passage beside the square, about 70 m away. All three serve the same menu, and when one is full we simply seat you at another: to us, it’s all Picas.

Each door keeps its own hours: the two on the square open at 09:00, the one in the passage at 13:30, and all three close at midnight. The addresses, phones and hours of each are at the foot of every page.

Google lists us as a tapas bar, and also as a bar, a breakfast and brunch restaurant, a cocktail bar and a Mediterranean restaurant. That’s a fair summary of a day at Picas: breakfast in the morning, tapas and sangria at the bar in the afternoon, lunch and dinner at the table.

Between the three doors there are around 300 seats, so large groups are welcome.

Picas Bar Tapas was formerly known as Picasso Bar Tapas. The name changed; the address on Plaza de la Merced did not.

IN THE HEART OF MÁLAGA

Where we are.

Our two main doors open onto Plaza de la Merced; the third is Taberna Picas Málaga in Pasaje Campos, about 70 m away. The square sits in Málaga’s old town, in the Centro district, postcode 29012. On Google Maps we are three separate listings: Picas Bar Tapas (Plaza de la Merced, 20), Picas Brunch & Tapas (Plaza de la Merced, 19) and Taberna Picas Málaga (Pasaje Campos, 8).

ON FOOT

Picas, on Plaza de la Merced, is about 5 minutes on foot from the Roman Theatre, at the foot of the Alcazaba, and about 10 minutes from the Cathedral.

All three doors have outdoor tables and a wheelchair-accessible entrance, and our terrace is on Plaza de la Merced, the square where Picasso was born.

A TASTE OF MÁLAGA

What we serve.

There are 43 tapas on the menu, at €6.50 or €7 each, and five tapas chosen by the chef cost €22. Then there is fried fish: the fried-fish section of the menu lists nine dishes, from boquerones (fresh anchovies) to squid, at €16.50 for a half portion or €23.50 for a full one, and Fritura Malagueña costs €19.50 or €27.50. Many of the larger dishes come as a half portion or a full one, so a table can share more of the menu.

The breakfast menu has set offers from €8, among them Basic at €8, Andalusian at €8.50 and English breakfast at €14. A glass of sangria is €6.50 and a jug €16.50.

On the food menu, 33 entries carry the vegetarian mark and 9 carry the halal mark (the menu speaks of "halal options"), and the only dish the menu names as vegan is the vegan burger.

HOW WE WORK

How we work.

We try to keep everything checkable. The prices we show are written as text, never hidden inside a picture, and each one comes from our own menu. Dishes that come in two sizes show both prices, half portion and full, so you know what you are ordering.

When we quote our Google rating, we link to the profile, so you can read the reviews for yourself: 4.7 / 5 from over 50,000 Google reviews on our main profile, Picas Bar Tapas. If we cannot back a fact up, we leave it out.

Our motto is "The best prices for the best people!": tapas from €6.50.
